What are Tubercles?
Lips, they can make or break a face.
Recently there has been a lot of talk about a ‘new’ technique in lip enhancement where they inject the natural presentation of the tubercles – basically the juicy part of the lips in the middle.
Always intrigued I wanted to find out more, so I went to see Dr Pamela Benito! What I was surprised to find out is that this technique is one that practitioners have been using for a long time, but it’s only now that the term is being widely used by doctors that it’s created a bit of a “buzz word”.
So what exactly are the tubercles? Well, in total you have five of them in the centre of your lips – three in the top and two in the bottom (the part of your lips that are the plumpest). And because this is the plumpest part of the lip you only need a small amount, so you subtly enhance the natural presentation of the tubercles. By doing this you get the best natural possible results, not a sausage lip, ridge or filler migrating into the face.
After Dr Benito explained this to me I was confident that I wanted to give it a try! She injected my tubercles in the top and then put just a tiny amount in the bottom two, using just under 1 ml and I have to say that the results are pretty incredible. I hardly felt a thing because of where she was injecting. Not to mention I had hardly any swelling and two weeks later I am absolutely thrilled with the results. This is definitely for you if you want to just enhance what you already have and not dramatically change your natural shape.
