World Medical Artists join forces on the 1st September you can too!
Frustrated Areola tattoo artists are taking the power back by gathering wearing inflatable boobs to show social media platforms they have a voice. It’s BOOB Invasion outside Facebook Headquarters!
El Truchan, 41, multi award winning practitioner from London who's been tattooing for medical and cosmetic purposes for the past 7 years had her FB account blocked several times for posting examples of her life changing 3D Nipple and Areola Tattoo work. In 2019 her whole FB business account was deleted due to images of Areola Tattoo being classified by FB as nudity. The account was restored after El visited FB London headquarters several times to make a complaint in person but her images are still being deleted by FB on a regular basis and account access and functions restricted ( including right now). El dedicates a lot of her time to treating patients suffering with hair loss, Vitiligo, scarring and post Mastectomy Areola restorative needs. Being a Vitiligo sufferer herself El understands very well how the loss of features can impact not only daily activities but also the self esteem of the sufferer. "Our work is ART" and those suffering deserve to know how and where to find us. - says El. Despite working in a private clinic El treats the Mastectomy Areola Tattoo patients free of charge to help bring back their confidence.
“We are so tired of fighting social media platforms for our life changing work to be allowed to be shown. We post photos of our work to inform people recovering from cancer that this treatment is available! Our posts are instantly blocked and sometimes our business social accounts are even banned. We appeal and are told our work is considered Pornographic and offensive material.I'm very proud that my nipple and areola tatto work is so realistic FB considers it as a real one but all our posts are full of notes and hashtags advising it's a Tattoo restorative work. There is no excuse for that, especially that bare chested males are allowed their nude chests to be posted from sports competitions as well as holiday photos but our restorative Tattoo work is taken down as offensive. So I’m supporting the World Medical Artists and Standing Up to Facebook on 1st September in London”
The founder of World Medical Artists platform Vicky Martin says:
“For so long I have been hearing breast cancer survivors and artist’s frustrations and concerns with social media platforms blocking and removing posts and accounts.” This is happening within the breast cancer and Medical Artists World with post mastectomy pictures being labelled as ‘porn’ and hence being removed..The first campaign a few years ago did improve awareness, so she is coming back with Campaign No. 2 along with The World Medical Artists, which is the platform created for all artists to be seen and heard.
“The frustration lies with artists being unable to show the world how incredible you can look after breast cancer. These important images are deemed to be Pornographic and are subsequently removed and accounts are blocked by social media platforms.”
Breast cancer patients do not know that there are talented artists on their doorstep! The aim of this campaign is for medical tattoo artists and breast cancer survivors to be allowed to freely post images without being blocked and subsequently losing their social media account for days on end …They want to use these images to show other breast cancer patients that WE ARE HERE! Breast cancer survivors are being ignored ...So, The World Medical Artists are making a stand on 1st September, coming together for an event outside Facebook HQ in London. They want to work alongside Instagram and Facebook in making sure these images can be posted and shared freely.
