Elijah
Elijah Rowen was down on his luck until he managed to get an audition for the Sky series Vikings, which he got, and it became his first professional acting job.
Having proved that he is one of Irelands most promising new actors he is now starring opposite Billy Zane in the series, Curfew, and his next adventure is set to take him to the far east. Here’s what he has to say when we caught up with him.
How did you get into acting?
I was down on my luck, walked past an acting school and saw lots of beautiful, talented women... Seemed to be the place for me
Your breakthrough role was in Vikings, which is no longer on our screens, do miss it?
Can’t dwell on the past... Onwards...
What’s the weirdest thing you had to do in the show?
Pretend to be a bad-boy
Now you onscreen brother in Vikings is played by Jack Mcevoy, who you went to school with?
Yes he was in the year below
Is it true you were rivals?
Yes and a bitter rivalry in the beginning
How did you bury the hatchet?
After a few cold ones and few quick slaps he realised the friendship bridge was finally built
You are in the new SKY One series, Curfew, starring opposite Billy Zane… can you tell us a bit about it and your character?
Quite guy but he handles business... the opposite of myself
Did you have to learn how to drag race?
They tried to teach me... But I can barely drive myself
What was Billy like to work with?
I have a real affinity for that man
Did he give you any advice?
He taught me a lot about being on set and even more about being off set
Who is your celebrity crush?
To me the word crush is seemingly superficial terminology... I need to get a sense for someones energy and outlook face to face before making a judgement like that
What would you change your name to?
Ezzodog Skywalker probably... As childish as that sounds
What is the most interesting thing you’ve seen/read this week?
I saw a mud crab attacking my brother Cazz along the Brighton peer the other day... Nasty little bastards
What’s the most useless talent you have?
I’m pretty good at blowing all my cash on fast women and slow horses
What would be a good theme song for your life and why?
Rock'n'Roll star by Oasis, the readers should give it a listen if they haven’t already
Do you speak any other languages? Are you good at accents?
I dabble in a few. Well I would hope so or I could get sacked
What is your favourite place in the world?
Well for me first time experiences are a really special thing, and the first time I went to New York may of been the first time I fell in love with a city
Biggest regret in life?
Not being born early enough to get cast as Legolas in The Lord of The Rings... Shoutout to whoever is casting the new series, get onto my agent!
What is the one thing that you wish you could do to look after the environment?
Get governments to pass legislation that would ensure a switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. If we covered just 1.2% of the sahara dessert in solar panels we could produce enough power to meet the energy needs of the entire world
Best advice you’ve been given?
Billy Zane once told me that the whole badboy thing had been done before, he advised to look at the 1920’s and the style, class and knowing that some of the great men of the era possessed
What do you do to cope with stressful situations?
I try to be perfectly comfortable in complete abandon regardless of how stressful a situation gets
Go to fashion look?
Throw on a leather jacket and walk down the street listening to Rock n Roll star... It may change the way you look at things
What type of role would you like to play next?
Something maybe music oriented... And fortunately that is exactly what I’m working on next!
Is there a side of acting that you don’t enjoy?
No one likes waiting around but it’s part of the business but I can hardly complain as the crew are flat out working while the actors get to sit wait
Is there any role that you would turn down?
At the moment I’m open to read anything and after that if you don’t feel it you don’t feel it
What’s next?
Something really special that I will be travelling far east for
