Well, whatever it was, I wanted to feel more than ‘meh' and that’s when I saw the sign above Fierce Grace ‘Hot Boys, Hot Girls Hot Yoga’ and thought what have you got to lose...and before I knew it I’d signed up for a 30 day trial.
Once you do a class you realise why its called 'Fierce Grace’ - it’s all yoga moves that are done with such an intensity, and to such a quick tempo that you are left feeling like a sweaty ninja.
It's not easy, let me warn you but you feel like your whole body has done a workout...but with it being yoga based you have none of that muscular wear and tear you get with your conventional gym...
Don’t get me wrong, my body was aching but it was a good ache, and I had so much of a sweat on, I doubt that there were any toxins left in my body.
I would highly recommend this sort of yoga to those who are looking for something different, a workout that focuses on toning and stretching and for someone who isn’t embarrassed to leave the joint looking like they’ve just been jet washed.
With my body literally buzzing with endorphins I decided to move onto my mind. Things had been hectic for me work-wise and I needed a bit of zen, me-time, meditation, whatever you call it, just a little buffer from the outside world where I could zone out in a safe space. Enter Kiki Morris (Primrose Hill Yoga).
Kiki works on a one to one basis, in a studio which was built in the loft of her home, in Primrose Hill. The space is beautiful and so tranquil and full of light - I know it sounds silly but you can just feel the good vibes in there.
Deep breaths fool the body that you are in control and it is no secret that breath work can be a powerful aid in dealing with stress. Kiki’s calm voice sent hypnotic waves through my body and before I knew it, I was off, with every stretch my muscles relaxed, my brain usually thinking of 100 and one things to worry about had found tranquility, as my breath deepened, my mind began to focus even more. When you mind and body unite it can be a truly enlightening experience.
Fierce Grace is incredible and my body feels rocking. If you’re up for seriously sweating it out and tuning into a speedy, yoga style workout.. then Grace is your girl..
Kiki Morris is a whole other level and I suppose she is practising the true essence of yoga..which is what this often wonderfully wonky mind needs when going slightly off piste..
The healing effect on my body has not gone unnoticed. I’m really looking forward to making this part of my weekly self care program!
